Despite a beach riot during a surfing event on Aug. 31, the sponsor of the event said last week that he wants it to return to Huntington Beach.

Jerry Crosby, executive vice president of Ocean Pacific Sunwear Ltd., testified before a commission investigating the riot. The commission was appointed by the Huntington Beach City Council.

“There are other beaches that can stage the event, but they wouldn’t be able to accommodate people as well,” Crosby said.

Councilwoman Ruth Bailey said that so far there have been few demands from Huntington Beach residents to end the Ocean Pacific Pro Surfing Championships.
