The flood of ads for alcoholism and drug treatment centers promise prompt and expert treatment for hapless victims of cocaine and booze. What they don’t mention is that the treatments are long and difficult and the costs to the patients can run into tens of thousands of dollars. In addition, as was mentioned on “20/20,” the programs are not necessarily free of scandals and poorly trained personnel.
