Fullerton : Hearing Today on Plan for Elderly Care Home

Share

The City Council will hold a public hearing tonight on a proposed residential care facility for the elderly that is opposed by area residents who fear that it could become a drug rehabilitation or psychiatric care center.

Residential care facilities can be transformed to such uses without council approval under city codes, a Fullerton planner said.

Several residents of a neighborhood south of the proposed site, on Commonwealth Avenue east of Annin Avenue, spoke in opposition to the plan at an Aug. 13 public hearing, when the Planning Commission rejected it on a 4-3 vote, the planner said.

The person who wants to operate the proposed center, Yehezekel (Hasik) Neches of Fullerton, could not be reached for comment.

The hearing is scheduled for the council’s 7:30 p.m. session, at 303 W. Commonwealth Ave.
