The largest casino workers’ union in Atlantic City, N.J., struck eight of the resort’s 11 gaming halls after midnight in a dispute over wages and benefits, union officials said. “Most of the casinos have large groups (of pickets) in front of them and so far they’re orderly,” said city police Chief Joseph Pasquale. The Hotel and Restaurant and Employees and Bartenders International union strike was the first by waitresses, bartenders, chambermaids and messengers since gambling began there in 1978.
