Bolivia authorized 170 U.S. servicemen assisting an anti-cocaine drive to remain in the country until mid-November. Foreign Minister Guillermo Bedregal told reporters the government decided to permit the Americans to stay for 60 more days because the nation’s police force needs more communications and transport equipment before it can fight the drug traffickers alone. The U.S. personnel arrived with six Black Hawk helicopters on July 14 to provide logistical support for an attack on the cocaine trade.
