2 Foreigners Chosen for Talks on Taba
A French national and a Swiss national have been chosen for the international team to arbitrate the Egyptian-Israeli Taba border dispute, the Foreign Ministry announced Tuesday.
The names of the two arbiters, selected by Egypt and Israel, will not be announced until approvals are obtained from France and Switzerland and the arbiters are notified personally, Foreign Ministry sources said.
Five people will be on the arbitration team--one each from Israel and Egypt and three who are considered neutral. The French national and the Swiss national are to pick the third neutral arbiter, who will need approval from Israel and Egypt.
The dispute over Taba, a 250-acre beach resort in the Sinai, was referred to international arbitration by an agreement reached last week between Israel and Egypt. The agreement cleared the way for a summit last week between Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres.
