Hetch Hetchy

Here’s three cheers for your editorial (Sept. 2), “Shame, San Francisco.” Mayor Dianne Feinstein is wrong in opposing Rep. Richard H. Lehman’s (D-Sanger) bill to prevent the expansion of Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in Yosemite National Park.

The Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct is San Francisco’s Peripheral Canal.

One quibble: a year ago you supported East Bay Municipal Utility District’s effort to build its own Peripheral Canal from the American River, a project long intertwined with the infamous Auburn Dam. Why shouldn’t this district, if it needs to expand its water system, look to the delta like everyone else?
