Woman’s Ex-Beau Jailed in Ashes Theft
A man was held without bond Tuesday on charges that he broke into his former girlfriend’s house and stole the cremated remains of her late husband.
John Sergio, 33, of Waukee was charged with fourth-degree theft, terrorism, assault and other charges stemming from the alleged break-in last month at the home of Cathryn Eastcott, Dallas County authorities said.
Assistant Dallas County Atty. Monty Brown said Sergio and Eastcott were having a relationship when she decided to break it off. The alleged theft of Rick Eastcott’s ashes on Aug. 2 was an apparent retaliation, he said.
