West Los Angeles : Forum Planned on Pipeline

The Southern California Assn. of Governments will sponsor a public forum Wednesday on the potential effects on the Westside of the proposed Angeles Pipeline, which would carry oil from Santa Barbara and the San Joaquin Valley to refineries in the South Bay.

An environmental impact report is being prepared for the California Department of Transportation, which is expected to consider permits for the pipeline early next year.

A route through the San Fernando Valley to the Griffith Park area and along Western Avenue has been designated the preferred location for the pipeline, but a Westside corridor along Sepulveda Boulevard also is being considered, as well as an Eastside route along Eastern Avenue.

Wednesday’s forum will focus on air quality. An orientation session for those with little background on the pipeline is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with a two-hour panel discussion beginning at 7 in the cafeteria of the Federal Building, 11000 Wilshire Blvd., Westwood.
