The Nov. 8 and 9 performances by the Martha Graham Dance Company in Royce Hall have been canceled, according to Pebbles Wadsworth, director of the UCLA Center for the Arts.

However, James Nomikos, general manager of the Graham company, denied that the performances were “canceled.” He said they “were never more than tentative.”

Nomikos specified that the announced November concerts “were only pencilled in. We have not canceled. We have been talking to UCLA for a long time about our next appearance there. Right now, we are both trying to make it happen in March of 1988. But it all depends on our ability to set up a tour around the UCLA dates.”

According to Gail Matsui, an assistant to Wadsworth, the Graham company is scheduled to perform in Royce Hall in March, 1988. That UCLA engagement “will be anchored by company appearances at Berkeley and in Seattle” in the same time period, she said.

This fall, instead of coming to Los Angeles after performances in Civic Theatre, San Diego, Nov. 6 and 7, the Graham troupe will fly directly to Philadelphia, where it will perform Nov. 12-16, Nomikos said.

For refunds, returns or exchanges, Matsui advised ticketholders to call (213) 825-9261.
