The Region : Soft Cheese Quarantined

Share

As part of a massive search for illegally manufactured products, the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services ordered soft-style Mexican cheese removed from shelves at 61 area markets. The search, which involved up to 130 health inspectors and 1,500 markets, was prompted by the discovery of the deadly listeria bacteria in one brand of illegally produced Mexican cheese sold at a market in the 800 block of South Vermont Avenue. The state Department of Health Services has issued a warning to consumers not to buy Cuajada Salvedorna cheese or any other cheese that did not have a state-approved label.
