Local News in Brief : ‘Tall Man’ Suspect Held in 18 Bank Robberies
A bandit dubbed “The Tall Man” because of his height was arrested Friday in connection with 18 recent bank robberies in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles police said.
In the robberies, committed during the last two months, the 6-foot, 5-inch suspect would present a demand note to the teller, then stuff the cash into a clutch purse, Lt. Bruce Meyer said. The man never showed a gun and no car was ever seen, officers said.
Howard H. Ghammaghami, 23, of Reseda, was arrested as he drove in the Van Nuys area and was being held in lieu of $6,000 bail in County Jail on suspicion of armed robbery, police said.
Police would not disclose how much money the bandit took.
