About 190 of the 240 Geo. A. Hormel & Co. meatpackers charged with misdemeanors during the bitter yearlong labor dispute in Austin, Minn., have agreed to an offer to drop charges against them in return for community service, Freeborn County District Judge James Mork said. A spokesman for the strikers said more are expected to accept. A few have said they want to contest the charges in court. The workers eligible for the settlement were charged with violating a court order limiting pickets, failure to disperse and resisting arrest. They are not required to admit guilt. The labor dispute formally ended Sept. 12.
