Santa Fe Springs : Zoning Changes Approved

Share

The City Council has approved several amendments to its zoning ordinance but delayed action on an overlay zone that could prohibit some new oil, gas and mineral operations.

The amendments, which include more stringent standards for signs, landscaping and setbacks, will update existing sections of the zoning ordinance.

The overlay zone, which could be imposed on a parcel to make existing oil equipment a non-conforming use that must be removed at the end of 20 years, will not be automatically applied to every oil-producing property. Oil-producing companies have said the zone would phase out the production of oil and oil products here.

City officials decided to study the overlay zone further and come back to the council with a recommendation, City Clerk Hazel Thomas said.
