Chile’s security forces made about 80 more arrests in searching two slums of Santiago for the guerrillas who ambushed President Augusto Pinochet’s motorcade on Sept. 7, the semiofficial news agency Orbe reported. About 90 people were arrested in previous raids. Under the state of siege imposed since the assassination attempt, the government said it is holding 27 opposition leaders in the capital, but it gave no figures on detainees elsewhere.
