Girl, 14, Gets Second Heart Transplant
A teen-age girl whose twin sister underwent a heart transplant last year was reported in critical but stable condition Friday after undergoing her second such transplant, hospital officials said.
Dawn White, 14, of Clovis, N. M., underwent surgery Thursday night after her body rejected a heart transplanted on Sept. 3 and she suffered cardiac arrest, a spokesman for Houston Methodist Hospital said.
Dawn’s twin sister, Nona, had a heart transplant on Sept. 7, 1985, the girls’ 13th birthday. Doctors later found that Dawn had contracted the same virus that caused Nona’s heart problems.
