It was settled. Then it wasn’t. Now it’s settled again.
Disneyland has agreed for the second time to settle out of court a lawsuit filed by the family of a man who was stabbed to death in the Anaheim park in 1981.
An Orange County jury awarded the mother and brother of Mel C. Yorba $600,000 in July. The jurors agreed that Disneyland failed to provide adequate medical care when Yorba was stabbed by another park visitor, who was later convicted.
Disneyland attorneys prepared to appeal the court’s decision but reached an out-of-court settlement with Yorba’s family. The suit was settled.
When a lawyer for the family announced the settlement earlier this month, a Disneyland attorney said it violated terms of the agreement calling for secrecy. The settlement was off. But a hearing Monday on a motion for a new trial was canceled at the request of Disneyland’s attorneys. Disneyland spokesman Robert A. Roth confirmed “the case has been resolved.”
