Sun Valley Man Shot by Deputy
A 35-year-old Sun Valley man who threatened his estranged wife with a rifle was shot in the head and seriously wounded Saturday by a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy after he pointed the gun at the officer, authorities said.
The man, Mohammad Kahn, was in critical condition at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena after the shooting at his wife’s home on Orchard Lane in La Canada, Sheriff’s Sgt. Merlyn Poppleton said.
Poppleton said Kahn and his wife had been arguing over custody of their child when he threatened her with the rifle. The woman locked herself in an adjoining room and called the Sheriff’s Department, Poppleton said.
Deputies arrived at the house about 12:45 p.m. Kahn told the deputies he would not be taken alive, Poppleton said. When Kahn pointed his rifle at a deputy, he was hit by a single shot to the head, Poppleton said.
