One of the world’s largest construction companies has agreed to station a safety director at each of its work sites as part of a probation agreement in a criminal case resulting from a fatal accident last year. Pankow Builders Inc. entered no-contest pleas in Los Angeles Municipal Court to four counts of violating the state Occupational Safety and Health Administration codes. The case stemmed from an accident last October at 8th Street and Grand Avenue in which Arthur Romero, 36, of Pomona was crushed to death beneath a girder that was dislodged by a forklift. Another carpenter was severely injured in the accident.
