South Korea Gets 9 More Gold Medals

South Korea continued to close ground on China in the battle for medals at the 10th Asian Games, collecting nine golds Friday.

Three of the Korean golds came in track and field, with two each in judo, tennis and taekwondo.

With two days remaining in the 16-day Games, South Korea had 73 gold medals, 50 silvers and 66 bronzes for a total of 189 medals. China led with 200 medals, including 85 golds, 75 silvers and 40 bronzes, while Japan was third with 187 medals (52-68-67).

With 40 gold medals still to be contested, the Koreans have fighters in the finals of all 12 boxing divisions; they are assured of at least one gold in badminton; they have a chance at two golds in judo, and they could produce some more in track and field.
