A 28-year-old Argentine pilot killed in the 1982 Falklands war was buried at Darwin, East Falklands, with full military honors in the presence of his father and sister, who became the first Argentines to visit the islands since the war. Lt. Miguel Angel Gimenez, whose body was found still strapped to the wreckage of his plane in August, was killed on May 28, 1982. Because the London and Buenos Aires have no diplomatic relations, the father, Isaias Gimenez, and his daughter Maria, 24, were forced to fly to Spain from Buenos Aires and then to Britain, where they caught a British military jet to the Falklands. Argentina still claims sovereignty over the South Atlantic islands, and Britain and Argentina remain technically at war.
