Second-quarter sales in the state totaled $54 billion, up $1.7 billion or 3.3% from the same 1985 quarter, the state Board of Equalization reported. Adjusted for inflation, the April-through-June sales registered only a 0.1% gain. A 17.2% plunge in service station sales was cited for the small advance. The amount of gasoline sold rose slightly, but the average price dropped to 93.6 cents this year from $1.18 in the spring of 1985.
