Shia Muslim Amal militiamen shelled and machine-gunned a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon on the sixth day of an offensive aimed at preventing the Palestinians from rebuilding a base in the area. As the battles raged, leaders from the two sides met at the office of Syrian Vice President Abdel-Halim Khaddam in Damascus, and they later announced a cease-fire. The announcement also said that an Amal-Palestinian delegation will be sent today to the south Lebanon camp of Rashidiyeh to monitor the situation.
