Poor people are more likely to get cancer and die from it than others, results of a two-year study showed. The American Cancer Society said in New York that people living below the poverty level, regardless of race, have a cancer survival rate that is 10% to 15% below the national average of about 50%, and that poor Americans’ risk of developing lung cancer is 60% greater than average.
