Rain and lightning near the Kennedy Space Center forced the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to delay until Wednesday the shuttle Atlantis’ planned trip to the launch pad for seven weeks of tests, including astronaut escape drills. The first shuttle “rollout” since the Jan. 28 Challenger disaster had been set to begin early today but was postponed 24 hours because of lightning within 25 miles of the Florida spaceport. Atlantis is on tap for the second post-Challenger flight in May, 1988--after a February flight of the Discovery.
