Two American track and field athletes who tested positive for banned substances during meets this summer have been suspended by The Athletics Congress.

Darren Crawford, 18, a shot putter from Albuquerque, N.M., tested positive for steroids, synthetically produced hormones that add bulk to muscle. Tom Jadwin, 28, a javelin thrower from Fresno, Calif., tested positive for excessive testosterone, a male hormone.

The violations were reported to the International Amateur Athletic Federation, the sport’s world governing body, which could suspend the athletes from all further competition for life.

Jadwin tested positive during the U.S. outdoor meet in Eugene, Ore., June 19-21, according to TAC, the national governing body for track and field.

Crawford tested positive during the TAC National Junior championships in Towson, Md., June 28-29, TAC said.
