A district court judge in Bhopal, India, granted an injunction barring the Union Carbide Corp. from destroying any documents related to the December, 1984, gas leak at its pesticide plant that killed more than 2,000 people. Judge K. S. Shirivastava signed the “non-destruct” order and set Oct. 30 for the next hearing in the damage suit against the U.S.-based corporation. The order was sought by the government after the firm said a similar order issued last May by U.S. District Court Judge John F. Keenan was no longer binding.
