College Roundup : Warde Leads UCI Past Fullerton in Water Polo, 15-4

Tom Warde scored four goals to lead UC Irvine to a 15-4 victory over Cal State Fullerton in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. water polo match Wednesday at Heritage Park in Irvine.

Warde scored all of his goals in the first half as the Anteaters opened a 9-1 lead. Galen Diaz had two goals for Fullerton.

UCI, which entered the week ranked eighth in the nation, is 4-1 in conference, 7-5 overall. Fullerton is 0-5, 2-6.

In PCAA volleyball action:

Hawaii 3, UC Irvine 0--Tita Ahuna had 13 kills to lead Hawaii to a 15-11, 15-8, 15-9 victory at Irvine.

Kris Roberts had seven kills and Alison Wood six for the Anteaters (1-6, 7-15).

Hawaii is 6-0, 11-1.

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. soccer action:

Chapman 2, Cal State Bakersfield 1--The Panthers used first-half goals from Doug Neely and Ramiro Alfaro to defeat the Roadrunners at Bakersfield.

Chapman, ranked 17th in NCAA Division II, is 1-0 in conference, 7-4-1 overall.

In nonconference soccer:

United States International University 2, Cal State Fullerton 1--Jon Sissons and Per Ola Lindkvist each scored for USIU in the first half.

Fullerton’s goal came in the second half when USIU’s Jorge Huerta knocked the ball into his own net.

USIU is 4-2-1. Fullerton is 2-8-2.

Caltech 6, Christ College 2--Alan Kwentus led the Eagles with two goals at Pasadena. Phil Gaylor and Bob Stevens scored for Christ College. Caltech is 3-2. Christ College is 3-3.
