Schaumburg, Ill.-based Motorola Inc. reported increased sales and a quarterly profit, instead of a loss, for the third quarter of 1985. Nine-month sales and earnings also rose. In the latest quarter, sales of $1.43 billion were up 10% from $1.30 billion and earnings were $31 million, compared to a loss of $39 million. For the nine months, sales rose to $4.27 billion from $4 billion a year earlier and earnings hit $131 million, up from $28 million. Chairman Robert W. Galvin said the profitability in the third quarter indicates that “we continue to see the benefits of the actions we took to correct the problems in our semiconductor and computer-related businesses.”
