About 2,000 Yom Kippur worshipers today evacuated Temple Emanu-El, the world’s largest Jewish house of worship, after a telephoned bomb threat on the most solemn day in Judaism.

Services resumed after police searched the premises and found no bomb in the temple at 5th Avenue and 65th Street in mid-town Manhattan. Police called in a dog and a robot to investigate a package discovered in the temple’s office building but it contained only a book. The neighboring Pakistani Consulate was also emptied for a short time.
