Nicaragua’s Sandanista government said that a special commission of lawyers from its Justice, Defense and Foreign ministries and Supreme Court will decide how, when and in what court captive American Eugene Hasenfus will be tried. Angela Saballos of the Foreign Ministry said in Managua that the panel will specify charges against Hasenfus, captured Oct. 5 when he bailed out of a downed transport plane carrying arms for U.S.-supported rebels, and will set a date for his trial. The statement followed protests from U.S. officials.
