A U.S. citizen arrested in Iran in June has confessed to charges of passing information to the CIA, the state-owned IRNA news agency said. The agency identified the man as John Patis, 50, a communications expert. His hometown was not listed. Patis has been to Iran several times since 1969 and was arrested June 19 for “espionage activities,” IRNA said. Patis appeared on Tehran television Monday and said he channeled information gathered in Iran to the CIA through the Cosmos Telecommunication Co., which he represented, IRNA said.
