MSI Inventory Devices Find a Marketing Arm

In yet another step forward on its comeback trail, MSI Data Corp. of Tustin announced Wednesday that Allen-Bradley, the factory machine-making subsidiary of Rockwell International, will market the MSI line of portable inventory-taking devices.
The value of the deal was not revealed. The terms call for MSI to manufacture the terminals and provide selected software. Allen-Bradley, based in Milwaukee, will market the MSI equipment through its distribution network.
The deal is the latest indication that MSI Data has reversed its decline of the last few years. Last month, the company won a $50-million contract to supply the U.S. Army with its devices.
The MSI machines scan bar codes and enter the data into portable terminals about the size of a pocket calculator. The devices are frequently used in grocery stores, stock rooms and factories to count inventory and track supplies.
