McDonald’s president, Michael J. Quinlan, 41, has been named to the additional post of chief executive. Quinlan succeeds Fred Turner who will continue as chairman. A McDonald’s spokesman said the change was an evolutionary one, noting that Turner had become chairman at age 40.

The appointment takes effect March 1, 1987.

The company said Turner will also be head of a newly formed executive committee.
