Czechoslovaks Ease Policy on Abortions

VIENNA — Czechoslovakia’s Parliament liberalized the nation’s abortion law Monday despite vehement protests from the Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic news agency Kathpress reported Tuesday.
According to the law, which goes into effect on Jan. 1, 1987, women no longer will have to justify in each case why an abortion is necessary. Three of every 10 Czechoslovak women who get pregnant get abortions, Kathpress said.
