Olives from three Tulare County groves have been impounded and will be dumped because they were contaminated with residues of a pesticide not registered for use on that crop, authorities said. Hector Prieto, a pesticide official in the agricultural commissioner’s office is trying to learn how Lorsban, which contains chlorpyrifos, got onto the olives. Two growers claim their crops were contaminated by wind-caused drift when Lorsban was sprayed by airplane on adjacent citrus groves to control scale.
