Jewel thief Jack (Murph the Surf) Murphy, whose theft of the 535-carat Star of India sapphire gave him international notoriety, will be paroled Nov. 11, the Florida Parole and Probation Commission said. Murphy, 48, was sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years for the murder of a secretary and the attempted robbery of a Miami Beach socialite in 1968. Murphy, who has said that a religious awakening has changed his life, has been in a work program at a halfway house in Orlando since 1984.
