Boros Will Know His Fate by Friday

Padre President Ballard Smith has arranged a meeting with Steve Boros for Friday, at which time Smith will let Boros know whether he will be returning as manager.

“They called me,” Boros said Wednesday. “They want me to come in the office and meet with Ballard and Jack (McKeon, general manager).”

Boros, whose one-year contract as manager expired after the 1986 season, is leaving Saturday on an eight-day cruise, and Smith had said he wanted to make a decision before Boros left town. If Boros’ contract is not renewed, he likely will return to his former job as coordinator of minor league instruction.
