President Reagan signed an executive order implementing stringent sanctions imposed on South Africa by Congress last month over his opposition. The order makes effective immediately the Anti-Apartheid Act banning imports of South African iron, steel, uranium, coal, sugar and other agricultural products as well as textiles. In addition, it bars new American investments in the country and direct airline travel between South Africa and the United States.
