The International Red Cross added the Muslim crescent to its title, prompting a dissent from Israel. Delegates meeting in Geneva agreed to make the group’s official name the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Israeli delegate Pinhas Eliav said that restricting recognition to Christian and Muslim emblems meant that Israel’s Magen David Adom (Red Shield of David) society, which uses the Star of David emblem, will be excluded from full membership.
