Goodyear vowed to fight a possible takeover.

Chairman Robert Mercer said the company, the world’s largest tire maker, which is reportedly a merger target, will do all it can to avoid being taken over. In a letter to the company’s 130,000 workers, Mercer said, “I want to assure you that we are taking every step we can to avoid a takeover.” English-born corporate raider Sir James Goldsmith, who is based in France, has been reported to be looking to take control of Goodyear.
