The Air Force’s new AMRAAM air-to-air missile bypassed radar-jamming equipment aboard a target drone and successfully intercepted it in the first test of the weapon’s ability to overcome attempts to foil its guidance system, the Pentagon said. The test, conducted last week at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, “tested AMRAAM’s ability to identify and cope with the target drone’s electronic countermeasures, acquire the low-altitude maneuvering target and intercept it,” a Pentagon statement said.
