Five astronauts and a team of NASA flight controllers handled various training problems programmed into the first extended simulation of a shuttle mission since the Jan. 28 Challenger disaster. The 32-hour simulation began at 9 a.m. at Johnson Space Center in Houston and was scheduled to continue until 5 p.m. today. The simulation will include the make-believe launch of a British Skynet military communications satellite and Palapa, an Indonesian communications relay station.
