The West German government announced that it is delaying a decision on whether to name a new ambassador to Syria and is taking other diplomatic and economic steps to show its solidarity with Britain against the Arab nation’s reputed complicity in terrorism. Britain severed diplomatic ties with Syria last week. The West German Cabinet agreed to delay final approval of a $28 million credit to Syria and to postpone or cancel visits by senior Syrian officials. Bonn also plans a check on Syrian Embassy personnel.
