Peru Extends State of Emergency for 60 Days
From Reuters
LIMA, Peru —
The Peruvian government Wednesday extended the state of emergency in Lima and the port of Callao because of continuing violence by leftist guerrillas.
A decree published in the official gazette extended the emergency, first imposed by the government of President Alan Garcia last February, for another 60 days.
The measure includes a four-hour nightly curfew, suspends constitutional rights of free movement and allows police raids on private homes.
