Also picked were catcher Gary Carter of the New York Mets, first baseman Don Mattingly of the New York Yankees, second baseman Steve Sax of the Dodgers, third baseman Mike Schmidt of the Philadelphia Phillies and shortstop Tony Fernandez of the Toronto Blue Jays.
