Police Drop Assault Charges Against Oil Can
- Share via
Prosecutors have decided not to press criminal assault charges against Boston Red Sox pitcher Dennis (Oil Can) Boyd, who was accused of attacking two police officers in July.
The decision to drop the action was made at a hearing in Chelsea District Court to determine whether criminal counts of disorderly conduct and assault and battery should be brought against Boyd for a confrontation July 15 with two police officers who had followed him to his Chelsea condominium.
The altercation in the suburb north of Boston occurred after Boyd had walked out on the team upon learning that he had not been selected for the American League All-Star team.
