Chadian rebel leader Goukouni Oueddei was seriously wounded when he resisted arrest by Libyan soldiers last week, his spokesman in Paris announced. The soldiers, acting on orders of Col. Moammar Kadafi, opened fire on Goukouni and several of his aides when they resisted the arrest order. Goukouni was wounded and four of his bodyguards were killed in the exchange. The extent of Goukouni’s injuries was not immediately known. Goukouni’s forces have been fighting in northern Chad to topple Chadian President Hissen Habre with Libyan backing, but Goukouni recently offered to start peace talks with Habre.
