More than half of nearly 1,000 students polled at four colleges said they are creationists who believe God created Adam and Eve, researchers at the University of Texas at Arlington said. About one-third of the students, at the Arlington campus, Central Connecticut State College, USC and Occidental College, believe in aliens from outer space, Big Foot, a hairy man-like creature reputed to live in the mountains of northwest America, and Atlantis, showing a need for better science instruction in high school, researchers said. They said students who believe in creationism are less likely to read books, tend to be more politically conservative and have lower grades than those who dispute the creationism theory.
