Sixteen Czechoslovak citizens left a Soviet cruise ship after it docked in Hamburg and nine have requested political asylum in West Germany, police reported Sunday.

A spokesman said he expects the others to report to the immigration authorities soon.

The Czechoslovaks were among 199 passengers on board the Soviet ship Mikhail Kalinin, which was heading for the East German port of Warnemuende.
